We have peasant paintings from Hu County, near Xi'an, available for exhibit. These lively scenes of peasant life always get a warm welcome. Please get in touch if you're interested in an exhibit--most venues are workable, and the length of time for an exhibit can be set to meet the exhibitor's needs. The paintings are available for sale; they are reasonably priced and make great gifts. Please contact us if you are interested in any of these possibilities.

How Am I to Touch with You? is Sylvia Krebs' personal collage of friends and students, places and events with history and contemporary developments added for context. Sylvia's book is drawn from her experience and observations during many years as a teacher in China. She and Ed first went to China in 1971 with a sojourn in Taiwan. Then in 1984-85 they taught English in Chongqing, and again in Xi'an in the momentous spring of 1989. Sylvia and Ed spent half of the 1990s in China, and she taught a range of subjects in U.S. history, culture, and literature. How Am I to Touch with You? is an involved, interested woman's perspective on the complex society of late 20th-century China.

Sylvia's book is available at a reasonable price through Lulu.com or Amazon.com. We have used excerpts of this book as orientation materials for our China trips. Readers have appreciated Sylvia's insights and the way she expresses herself.

Roaming the Yellow Earth is Ed Krebs' translation of a book of photos and essays written by Huang Fu, our friend who is a photographer. For years Mr. Huang has photographed life in northern Shaanxi province, a ruggedly beautiful area with its own distinctive culture. This translation offers an English version of Huang Fu's observations on many subjects: the nature of this area's "yellow earth," family life, marriage customs, New Year customs, traditional religion. The English text gives meaning to Huang Fu's beautiful photographs. This translation was completed to coincide with the exhibit of Mr. Huang's photos at the Cultural Arts Center in Douglasville, Georgia, in October 2009.

Huang Fu's Chinese original and Ed's English translation are sold as a pair of texts. The translation is keyed to the Chinese original for easy reference. The price, postage/shipping included, is $14.75. Send your order to edkrebs@hotmail.com.
